Essay on Ethics

Picture yourself in the most isolated place on Earth, accompanied by a group of people. You will be there for a very long time and you have to survive. Would you adopt an ethical behaviour when organizing this new community? Is it possible to make your decisions based on ethics and morals when trying to survive?
On the one hand, you would try very hard to accomplish this as you need it for your own health. If you don't follow similar rules as those in your everyday life, you won't be able to  to cope with your own mind. Thoughts are part of somebody's health. If I were in a situation like this, I would try to adopt the ethical laws of my previous community. Routine is something extremely important to pay attention to in these cases. This fact is shown in the movie "Castaway" in which the main character creates an imaginary person out of a ball to maintain his decorum.
On the other hand, we may say that it won't be possible to follow morals when trying to survive as our priority might be survival and not ethics. Our nature is the same than animals and, all that matters in the Animal Kingdom is to live for one more day. Many times this will lead us to extreme situations, as it is the case of the Uruguayan Rugby Team, whose plane fell in the middle of nowhere in Los Andes Mountains. So as not to starve to death, they had to resort to cannibalism, breaking the tacit ethical law as regards this issue.
To conclude, I firmly believe I would make a decision of this type based on ethics and morals. Unluckily, you can never know until you are in a life-threatening situation, as there are as many cases as people in the world.
